2Size the plate

Shape
Cut-out width (mm)
Cut-out height (mm)
Corner radius (mm)
Swap width/height
Centre-line notches
Hole diameter (mm)
Plate thickness (mm)

3Marking spikes (face side)

Spikes on the cut line
Corner spikes
Edge spike spacing (mm, 0 = corners only)
Spike length (mm)
Spike base diameter (mm)
Spike tip diameter (mm)
Inset from cut line (mm)

Spikes are kept inside the template so the whole base prints on the plate (minimum inset = base radius + 1.5 mm). Press the template onto the plasterboard: the marks sit that far inside the cut line, so cut just outside them (or trace round the plate edge).

4Handle & centre locator (back side)

Handle
Grip length (mm)
Grip height above plate (mm)
Grip thickness / knob radius (mm)
How the handle attaches

Every option prints with no supports. One piece: printed knob-down with a 45° skirt under the plate, spikes on top. Screw-in: the knob has a hollow printed thread that screws into the plate (2 STL files). Glue-on: knob spigot or D-handle pegs go through the plate; add a drop of glue (2 STL files). If one piece is not possible the app says why and uses glue-on.

Pencil hole diameter (mm)
Centre nozzle height (mm)
Centre nozzle diameter (mm)

The hole runs through the plate (and handle) at the exact centre: push a pencil or awl through it onto your centre mark. 7–10 mm, 8.5 mm fits a standard pencil. The hole is vertical in every print layout, so it needs no teardrop.

Face recess with cross ribs
Recess diameter (mm)
Recess depth (mm)
Rib width (mm)

5Engraved label (optional)

Text
Letter height (mm)
Engrave depth (mm)

Letters A–Z, 0–9 and - . / + x. Text shrinks automatically to fit below the nozzle.

?How to use the printed template

  1. Mark the centre of the fitting on the wall (check height and level against other plates).
  2. Hold the handle, line the centre hole up with your mark (or the notches with level lines).
  3. Press firmly: the spikes punch marks just inside the cut line (see the inset in step 3). Trace around the plate too if you like.
  4. Join the marks and cut with a Stanley knife or plasterboard saw, then fit your bracket.

Presets are starting points from manufacturer data. Always check the size against the bracket, clip or downlight you are installing, and check for cables, pipes and studs before cutting.
